mama's message
mama’s message is an empowering, social studies art book, inspired by the first 22 cards of the original Rider-Waite tarot deck, where I will be incorporating fashion editorials and creative literature. I, also, intend to create my own deck of cards with the fashion editorials. This creative nonfiction focuses on the sociological human development of African descended people with an aim to challenge conservative perspectives towards Black identity and ethics by integrating the critical philosophy of race with spiritual rhetoric for racial healing. The goal is to produce three mediums for this project including a 5.5"x8.5" novel, an 8.5"x11" art book and a 2.75"x5.125" deck of cards:
Layout of full 22 chapters displayed as cards (3 out of 22 editorials complete)
Deriving interpretative influence from the Hoodoo Tarot, Herbcrafter’s Tarot and the Black Tarot, this project will cover divisiveness in Black heterosexual love, religious-ritualism integration, racial disadvantages (The Glass Ceiling), Black struggle with vulnerability, and Black joy. My aim is to introduce the exploration of tarot to those in the community unfamiliar with amenable interpretation in a way that empowers community healing! Currently, I have 3 completed fashion editorials, 11 completed prose essays, and 22 completed poems.
Preview of working manuscript, mama's message
The working manuscript for this book went into development in Fall 2024, and is now ready to welcome the next stage: fashion production. During this season, I was able to witness myself blossom as a writer and educator; this progression in my craft has been incredibly encouraging and has pushed me in a direction towards accomplishment. Thus, my primary focus is to continue completing the literature for this project while simultaneously fundraising for fashion production, with a goal of three fashion series at a time! Now more than ever, I find this work I am creating necessary for the fellowship and unity of the Black community. We are constantly facing adversity and this is my attempt, as a Black feminist and artist who is adamant on using her voice as a weapon, to make a difference.
